Great news for some St. Paul residents! The city's guaranteed income pilot program was among several programs in cities across the country to receive a $500,000 boost from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter launched the People's Prosperity Guaranteed Income Pilot program this past fall, which provides $500 monthly payments to 150 families from four of the city's lowest-income zip codes. The additional money provided by Dorsey will help grow or sustain the initiative.
Since only the families that are randomly selected are eligible, there is not an open application to apply to the People’s Prosperity Pilot. Households that are selected will be contacted to complete enrollment and must verify they have a COVID economic impact to be eligible.
The goal of this initiative is simple: get cash to families in our community with no strings attached so they can buy the things they need like food, housing, and other essentials. The $1.5 million program is being paid for with federal CARES Act and philanthropic dollars.
